Medical students and family medicine residents and took Kansas City by storm during the AAFP’s recent National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students on July 28-30. The three-day NCRS featured workshops, social and networking events, an expo featuring representatives from hundreds of family medicine residencies and the resident and student congresses.
Day One’s main stage presentation featured remarks by AAFP President Wanda Filer, MD, MBA, and Family Medicine for America’s Health President and Board chair Glen Stream, MD, MBI. A Health is Primary panel discussion followed with moderator TR Reid; Jen Brull, MD; Natasha Bhuyan, MD; and Zubin Damania, MD, who performs as ZDoggMD. ZDoggMD also debuted his new video — 7 years — for the audience. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jV9RyXQyQ7Q
The Expo Hall offered students the opportunity to learn about the hundreds of residency programs; 37 of California’s programs were “in the house.” California also hosted a California Reception; more than 175 students, residents and faculty members attended and we were thrilled to have AAFP dignitaries Drs. Bob Wergin and Wanda Filer join us. CAFP Foundation’s NCRS scholarship winners were presented their awards by Drs. Matt Varallo and Laura Doan, Residency Council leaders.
The Student and Resident congresses also conducted their final business sessions, debating more than 100 resolutions on a wide range of issues related to public health, education and more. They also elected their leaders for next year — Congratulations to our own Alex Alex M. McDonald, MD, Kaiser Permanente Family Medicine Residency Fontana, who was elected co-convener for the 2017 National Conference.
